Hi Alex, welcome on board.
My thoughts are that it would work but would add complications
with all the through hulls that you need.
Also if it were a sub-say 4 metres long by 1 metre diameter & you had the 
skin 1cm
from the hull, it would add another 300kg to your weight.
Also it would be fragile if anything hit it in transit or diving.
