RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] cast dome cost

Hey, it's no problem, - a methyl methacrylate monomer is industrially produced by reacting hydrogen cyanide with acetone to yield acetone cyanhydrin.  This acetone cyanhydrin is mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid and heated to form a crude methacrylamide sulfate which is reacted with methanol and water, yielding methyl methacrylate and ammonium bisulfate.

Maybe leave it to du Pont & Co.

biggest problem with DIY is that you cant really trust the qualtiy of the cast... i know that i wouldnt trust my handywork in a 1atm sub at any depth. but that be said i have little to know pratical practice with acrylics..

Does anybody know what would be involved with actually casting acrylic on your own?  What is the proceedure ? and can the chemicals be purchased?  I guess I should refer to my acrylic handbook !

Brent, I think that would be for a blown dome. For a cast dome I forget the number but it was WAY more than that I'm afraid.

Hi people,
Can anyone give me an indication of what a cast acrylic dome costs.
Something round the size of a K250 dome, 24" x 1" thick.
Or any dome that you know the dimentions of.
Thanks Alan
