Heating would probably be the biggest issue, as it might cause issues with the epoxy and fillers. The professionals set copper pins in molten glass, and that's one of the reasons.

Aluminum has a lot more resistance (and heating as a result) as compared to copper.  I would stick with copper as a choice over aluminum.
