Nice job on the through hulls. I'd suggest you avoid the spade
terminals. It's what I had, and they were overheating under prolonged
use. I just redid the cables with fatter ones that are long enough to go
all the way to the switches on the control handles.

Thanks for your advice. I had not considered filling the epoxy with the
shaft screwed in. I was going to make a plastic spacer to hold the
conductors in place at the handle end and block the hole. Pour the
epoxy in and just hold it in place until it went off. Then screw the
thing together with epoxy sealant. Spade terminals to connect the
cables.
However, your idea might be better as it would help to seal the threads
and fill the last bit of threaded motor pod also with epoxy. I'll have
another think about it when i take it all appart again to do it.

That looks like excellent work. The epoxy will adhere fine as long as
the surfaces are cleaned well. Also, check the resistance on the
conductors to make sure they don't produce a lot of heat under full
load. You can also get copper rod. Also check the temperature rating for
the epoxy- some types will soften with a little heat.
I don't know what your plan is to assemble the parts but this has worked
for
me- drill a small hole through the side of the stainless shaft near the
motor end. Insert the rods and wires (with spacers)into the shaft and
thread the shaft into the motor. Inject medium viscosity 2-part 3m epoxy
(using a 3m epoxy gun)into the hole in the side of the shaft to form a
"plug" around the end of the rods. After the plug hardens, stand the
shaft up fill with thinner liquid epoxy.

Hi All
Have a look at my motor through hulls and let me know what you think. I
sort of made it up from a design Emile sent me, Kittredge, and me.
I wasnt really sure what i was going to do, but i got in the workshop,
started and this is what i ended up with....

The main 28mm bar screws into the Minn Kota motor pods. There is 15mm
bore all the way through and then a 20mm bore at the motor end to create
a "stop"
for the epoxy fill.
I intend to put 2 long 4mm brass rods all the way through and fill the
entire 20 - 15mm bore with epoxy.
There will be a washer welded on to the outside of the bar to create a
stop and a plastic washer. Also a square milled flat to attach the
handle. (all yet to complete)
Question: Do i need to score or rough up the inside of the bore to
create better adhesion for the epoxy?
And suggestions, thoughts? I'm unclear with this bit, so any comments
are welcome, even if its "thats a load of crap, do it again".
