The material used for decades when building hydrophones and transducers is
called "corprene". And the reason for it's use is that cork just happens
to have the same acoustic impedance as seawater.

Way back, I questioned the list if anyone knew what corprene was, and
where to get it - since the word was new to me at the time - but I got no
answer.

However, I now assume the word to be a brand name for something like those
corky gasket sheets (fragments of cork bonded in a rubber) you get at the
local garage.

So I guess you could use that gasket material, David.
