Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Minn Kota V Motor Guide

Hi Carsten

Thanks for the valuable info. I called motorguide and the speed controller is in the motor pod (as Doug said), so im going with the Minn Kota.

Funny, because i told the minn kota salesman i was considering the motorguide as an alternative, he called me just now and has mirraculously managed to knock a further ?100 off the price.

So they are now cheaper than the motorguide, i can get service here....and they are the right colour. So i'll just have to deal with the PM controller noise issue somehow.

Hey! Youve just invented the perfect car opening device for thieves......!

Kind regards
James

Hi James, on Peppers the side scan sonar works not, even with a seperate battey.. if the 1-2Kw PM-Motorcontroller runs.
But runs fine with the controller at zero or at full speed.
Same on Euronaut with the big custom build 40kw PM-Controller.
The sonar on Euronaut even works not if it is outside the sub and some meters away.

Both Motorguide/Rino and Minnkota build good, simple and robust trolling motors.
KKS goes for Rino because of the cheaper price and the simple step controller. No high frequency noise.

Funny - last time I run the PM-Motor-Controller of Peppers
on the trailer behind my new car - and all four windows of the car open automaticlly..
Hopefully I have later not the same problem with the electric hatch servo on Euronaut...

Original the Peppers Thrusters were filled with terpentin Oil on a cental system together with the batterys,
but the pvc cables goes pretty hard. Later the motors and batterys were central air compensate but we run also in
troubles, with flooding, acid in the motors and corrosion.
Now one motor is back to oil compensation but this time as stand alone solution.
Its filled with WD40 has a small clear piep and at the end of the pipe a small clear soft plastic box
(which normal contains car-door defrezzer).
There is a small air bubble in the small box but this is a good indication about the situation inside the motor.
At the moment I prefer for this small booat single solution oil filled thruster and central air compensate batterys.
Oil filled thrusters are simple to make and the best is that you have not any huminidy corrosion problem.
