Hi Vance. Ya, the saddle tanks will also give better visibility too. On
towing, I'm not sure that would be a problem. If you rig it down low in the
front, towing will pull the front up, and the saddle tanks will help to keep it
level side-to-side. Probably take a little trial and error to get the right
geometry on the tow line attachment.
The tanks on the KSS must be left and right, but I wonder if they are also
divided front and back.
With the basic K boat pressure hull, added saddle tanks, and the FRP shell
up front, maybe you could re-work the front shell and shorten it. Maybe put a
pointed bow, and fan out the sides to deflect waves some while towing. Working
with a scale model and putting it in a stream of water may prove useful. That
process really helped me when I was designing the ballast tanks on mine. I made
a lot of changes to the models until I came up with a sleek shape that was
pretty stable, even at high speeds.
Nice thing about models is they're cheap, and small enough to change
easily.
I've got a three point set-up on the front of mine, and should be able to
adjust the top line to affect change in the angle during towing. I plan on
mounting a small outboard on the back plate so maybe reduce the amount of towing
needed. A little 20 horse Merc is something I can pick up and stow easily.
Still need a surface boat anyway for comms and a cooler full of beer.
I'm doing some renovations on the house here, to get it ready to rent out
long term. I'm hoping to be living in Daytona by late August/Sept. I'll
keep you posted on any changes to schedule. If you need a hand with anything,
I'd be glad to help. I'll be bringing all my welding equipment and tools down
with me. See ya soon. Frank D.
