Frank, Although not yet verified, our underwater broadband voice transmitter should be easily heard underwater by the unaided human ear. Testing is needed to verifiy that no fear of hearing loss could be the result from higher power transmission levels. This could be done in a swimming pool or shallow lake. We are using a transmitter that could be used in shallow water without any modifications for listening to music in a swimming pool, but has been altered to perform this task much deeper and the music has been changed to be our voice. Getting word back from the diver outside would still require some form of written system or the return message via a like system aboard the support vessel or another submarine. You, Dean, or Les can test this for us when time permits. A few hard smacks on the hull with a hammer might work but not very useful because the diver would have to be so close to hear it. Better to have a pad and felt pen so you could write instructions and hold them up to the window like maybe how much air you've got left or where the emergency ballast tank fill fitting is located.
