Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] scrubber
Vance,
Air volume, velocity, and resistance are the important factors. There's
plenty of data on the web regarding the absorption capacity of various
products (sofnolime, sodasorb, etc) which means for a given volume of
the material you can easily calculate the duration of the chemical based
upon the amount of CO2 being expelled. The harder parts are
anticipating and dealing with the dynamics such as packing of the
material, size of the material, and the absorption latency of the
material. Sodasorb, sofnolime, etc comes in different mesh sizes and
has to be "packed" into the housing. Too tight and you restrict air
flow too much. Too loose and you allow air to escape that has not been
cleaned. In terms of air velocity, you have to be careful not to have a
fan that pushes the air too quickly or it won't spend enough time on the
chemical (latency) to get cleaned. There are a lot of factors to
consider which for a home built unit means testing to see how it
performs. Specifics are important here, so when you find something that
works let us know exactly how it was built, what kind of fan, airflow
(cu ft/min), etc.

Dan,
We ought to contact the guy and find out about breathing pressure. If
he is using it to breathe through then we ought to have no trouble
adapting it for fans. Maybe one or even two boxers stacked will move
pretty good air. They're cheap and quiet, so it shouldn't be too much
trouble. We'll need to conact Soda Sorb or somebody and get the info
on absorption rates and so on.
