Vance, You wouldn't know by any chance where I might find some pictures of the pod covers on the Perry subs? Any excuse to drink will do. ;} Just attach a small SS chain on the inside of the cap and then to the pod, like a gas cap. I can see the Triton 1000 hitting a rock hard enough to brake one of those thin attachment rings off the pods. So I'm currently thinking I like the way Carsten did it on Peppers, and Phil is on the Deepworkers. I've been working on a C type hinge closure means that can seat evenly as the pressure increases. This way the pod cap stays on the pod during servicing. I'll have to search for a picture of the caps removed from the Deepworkers. Perhaps Phil has some.
Here is a shot of the Deepworker 2000 with what looks like a center head bolt on the front of the battery pod, much like what is done on the K-350 pods. It seems like the older Deepworks had the aft caps removable, and the newer ones on the front. You can also see a large plate thru hull in this photo. That was a standard deal on Perry subs. Phil doesn't use them, by the way. Even in the old days, Hyco bolted the pod ends on Aquarius (lots of BIG bolts). The clamps are quick and easy, but I've seen more than one of them knocked off or damaged. It's really unhandy when you lift your million dollar Perry out of the water and watch one of the pod covers go bloop, right into the drink. Let's see. Spares? No, we don't have another one. Damn. What now? Hmm. Somebody get the Scotch. I need a drink. But using a small hinge like is used on these tri clover clamps we use at the winery to attach and seal hoses to tanks and what not. It's hard to make out the hinge on the Triton pods, but you can see one on the top of the starboard pod in this rendering of the sub if you look closely and the tightening bolt on the bottom.

Did not look closely at the unit that was on our pier a short time ago but from inspection of the images, it looks like the mating unit is one or the other but not both. The two-part clamping ring interfaces with beveled surfaces so that when the tighter it is drawn together, the more pressure is put on the flat mating surfaces.

Are all the outer mating parts of the two-part coupling flange beveled so they increase the pressure on the seal further as the two clam shells are brought closer together?
