I've used the BV a bunch of times. Full disclosure: VideoRay sells them integrated with the vehicle. It really is as cools as their literature makes it look. Actually it's probably better. The experience with using it is kinda like using a tight beam flashlight on a really dark night. The update rate is less than video, but not all that much, and the range is probably a bit less than what one would ideally want or a sub at least at the high freqs. But In real murky water it's a life saver. As with any sonar technology it does take a bit of experience to be able to fully interpret images. They are spendy, in the realm of if you have to ask... There are other somewhat similar devices on the market: Didson: http://www.soundmetrics.com Very similar to the BV, although I think more $$ and my biased opinion is that the BV is better. But worth a look if your serious. EchoScope: http://www.codaoctopus.com/3d_ac_im/index.asp Same idea in that it is a multibeam, but it presents a coarser 3-d image. FarSounder: www.farsounder.com Lower freq, longer range, full 3-d. More like a boat depth sounder on steroids. Scanner sonars like imagenx, tritech, etc. are much less expensive. But not as cool. -a -----Original Message----- From: owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org on behalf of vbra676539@aol.com Sent: Mon 2/23/2009 8:35 PM To: personal_submersibles@psubs.org Subject: Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] blue view sonar Wow!!!
