Jon, To help put this whole pinger/passive sonar/underwater communications thing in easy to understand terms...You must first understand that I sometimes have trouble staying the course or rather staying focused...This is to say that this project has evolved into a system to incorporate most of all of these functions into a single sonar console. We started with basic idea of developing a passive hydrophone for collision avoidance purposes. This in turn evolved into a two way communications console with passive sonar capability. The passive sonar feature would be the normal mode of operation when communications were not being utilized. This is exactly what has been developed and is currently being tested by both Les and Frank. Not only does this system provide a degree of collision avoidance safety not before available to small private submarines, but allows for the broadband voice communications between two submerged submarines or between a submerged submarine and its support surface craft. The "acoustical pinger" I am afraid has fallen to the wayside by our small research group, and will most probably be developed at some point in the future or we will rely on products already available on the open market to perform this function. (It would not be cost effective to retrofit these consoles with this added feature at some later date) David Bartsch > Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2009 12:30:09 -0500 > From: jonw@psubs.org > To: dbartsch2236@hotmail.com > Subject: Re: schematic > > Dave, > > Not sure about the acrylic numbers regarding Les's submersible.
