I think you'll find that most equipment in the Underwater field is going to be more expensive than you would hope or expect. There are two primary drivers in addition to production/r&d costs. One is that the market size is so small that high prices are required to offset development, advertising and field support. The other is that the marine environment is harsh, so warranty repair costs are in general non-trivial.

Equipment made for scuba divers tends to have lower price points, but may not meet depth requirements etc.

They might, but you still would likely have sticker shock and have to pick your jaw off the ground. Well, at least that's what I had to do. I visited DeepSea at the underwater intervention last year, and I think their cheapest light was somewhere in the range of $3k-5k. They primarily deal with the oil and gas industry which has deep pockets. Phil Nuytten also manufactures an LED high intensity light by the way, but I believe it also sells somewhere in the 4 figure range.
