Concerning the Voyager Project....... I wonder what type of
stiffening/strengthening Scott did to that K250. I like the new fairings he
added. I got the impression they will be towing the sub around the world, using
the tether to supply power and communications. I've always thought that would be
a good way to go, with power from above, ( not necessarily towing, but following
the sub ) and stand-by power on board for untethered short dives or back-up
if a problem developed during the tow.
I'm not sure what they expect to find in the middle of the ocean at 100
feet deep, but I'll be watching their progress, and hope to see some good
videos. It would be awesome to drive along next to some whales or maybe among a
pod of dolphins. With the right dive planes and rudders, quite a bit of latitude
should be possible while being towed, as long as the tether is long enough.
