Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] ADS NewtSuit/HardSuit Applications

Hi, Carsten!
Long time no 'talk' - The Newtsuit arms on a small sub is a good
idea. The current Deep Worker is a modification of a series we built called
'Flyer' (originally called 'Sea Urchin 2) That sub had a top entry dome
just like Deep Worker and a leg tube - but longer than the one we use now.
It also had another dome which attached to the cabin sphere at ninety
degrees from the the entry dome and opposite the leg tube and you could
then lay down in the long 'leg-tube' and look out through the horizontal
dome with the entry dome above your head. If you wanted use it as a sit-up
sub (like DeepWorker) you could blank off the 'rear/front' dome with a
steel hatch plate, since it would not be in use - However, I designed a
smaller bubble port (used the small hemi from the Newtsuit) to mount into
that back hatch and put a couple of Newtsuit arm flanges below the vision
bubble. Idea was to fly to the worksite in the usual (and very comfortable)
sitting position - back up to the work - swing the seat out of the way, put
your arms into the suit arms and go to work. An auxillary controller in the
hand pods would allow simple maneuvoring of the sub whilst working. There's
one of these - unfinished - still in the shop. You'll have a chance to see
it at the 2009 conference, if you make it. Be good to see you!

Phil
