[PSUBS-MAILIST] Found a mention of Type XXIII in a novel

I have been reading a murder mystery and conspiracy novel by Michael Slade titled CRUCIFIED. On pages 167-174 and 219-224 is a description of a Type XXIII and some descriptions of duty and combat in it. This is first mention that I have seen of the XXIIIs in a novel. Based on what I have previously read, Slade got the details down pretty well. OTOH he seems to think that "Diesel power,Sturmer learned, was obsolete. By replacing it with electric motors juiced by high capacity batteries, the Germans had built a machine that could stay submerged for 194 miles..." That's false as the XXIIIs did have deisel engines as well as electric motors. Other details of XXIII are true like he mentions that the torpedos had to be loaded into the tubes from outside
the sub.

Not the greatest book I have read but nice to see mention of a U-boat that doesn't get much mention unlike it's big brother the Type XXI.
