Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Project update

Hi James,

Yes the dome will fit on the end of the cone, however my dome does not have a beveled seat. It is a 90 degree seat with about 60 % of the seating area horizontal with the dome sitting flat and about 40% at 90 degrees or vertical. I was concerned about how to properly fit and machine the dome seat correctly as well as Greg was not able to machine the taper at his facility. I will be seating the window in about 1/16 inch of sika flex sealant making the opening slightly larger to accomodate.

Best Regards,

Jim K

Hi Jim

Good idea with the "blanking plate" for the manipulator arm. Tempted to do the same because im sure i'll want a manipulator at some point. I'll thinnk about it.

I assume the dome fits to the end of that cone?

Your dome has a beveled seat so how are you going to machine the seating face for the dome? Maybe you have a seperate ring that fits to it?

Im interested because my dome seat is being machined up at the moment.

Regards
James

Hi James,

Thanks for the good words. The larger opening in the side of the cone that
looks like a viewport seat will house a steel plate with o-ring seal. This
will later be removed to install a manipulator arm. This will allow later
addition without welding on the hull.

Hi all,

I was able to add a couple of pictures to the projects section of the psubs
site.

I see mine at www.psubs.org/projects/jimk

I have added the transition cone as well as ballast tanks.

Best Regards,

Jim K
