I take issue with the thought that sea creatures are just eating machines
unaware of anything esoteric. Especially higher forms like whales. As a long
time diver I've seen what looks like fish that "play" and communicate with each
other. Although we may never fully understand what motivates a particular
species to perform any given act or function, to simply assume they are
less aware of their surroundings and only "react" rather than "act" is to risk
missing some valuable insights into our own actions and will certainly lessen
our life experience. Rather, I choose to keep an open mind concerning things I
can't prove or disprove, and revel at the wonder that these encounters produce.
Making assumptions about the "lady" manta may be a little much, but until
we can interact with the many creatures we see, and learn to appreciate the
millions of years of evolution that produced their individual traits, I think it
better to try to learn from them rather than dismiss them. Frank
