David, There are applications where a blue-green laser is used to
determine bathymetry from an aircraft, communicate with a submarine.
There is other experimental work that has been completed by I don’t know
if there have been real world applications. In the early 90s, Lockheed
released images of a WW II plane in ~230 fsw off of the sewerage outfall in San
Diego that were taken from an airborne deployed laser. The insignia on
the wings could be discerned. None of this equipment is available
in an economical format. The blue-green laser is used as there is a window of maximum transparency
in seawater at that frequency. Jay Respectfully, Jay K. Jeffries Andros Is., Bahamas Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. - Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC) From: owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org

Bartsch No expert, but it could be the color
of this laser is known to the transmitting electronics...should it strike an
object and send a return of differing color? I have used a portable laser
thermometer but it too works on majic...we had best let someone in the know
answer this one.
Hi Doug and David. I saw something the other day where a laser was
being used as a means of detecting things ahead while traveling in murky water.
Got any thoughts on this? Frank D.
