RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] hood

I would be willing to demonstrate the use of a Steinke Hood to anyone attending this year's Convention. My only constraint is my baggage allowance to fly back to the States is only 50 lbs. so may not be able to accommodate my Hood in my baggage. Please email me if you are interested and I might see about posting it to and from the Conference if there is sufficient interest. If it does happen, will get a series of images to depict the process.

While the British Mk-10 suits (the one on eBay is a Mk-9) is the way to go for submarine escape and thermal protection on the surface, you would have great difficulty exiting a PSUB in this suit due to the bulk and extreme buoyancy of the suit. The Brit subs have a remote controlled door to allow the escapees to exit the sub in this suit.

I bought some Steinke Hoods a while back (from somebody who was selling
them on ebay). I tried one of the hoods on, when realized it would probably
be pretty easy to accidently kill yourself with the hood.

I would like to see the operating proceedures for the Steinke Hoods, or maybe
get instruction on there use from somebody who has used one.

I liked Carsten's DIY Steinke hood, put a plastic bag over your head!

Cheers,
  Ian.
