[PSUBS-MAILIST] Original K-250 Lighting Assembly

HELP!!

Help me Frank, help me ;)'

I found a really cool new type of penetrant yesterday to help me get some of the rusted parts off like the nuts holding the manipulator arm control rod, the thrusters, the emergency flood cap, and front lighting tubing.  Would you believe that the Halogen car light bulb still works.  It might not be the original one, but it's still been in the pressure casing for years.  I took the light housing assembly apart to see what it looked like. When I removed the acrylic lens a bunch of silvery black powder came out. I suspect that powder is from some sort of reflective coating that was painted on the inside of the 6" metal pressure casing? I don't know what good it would of done since the GE Halogen bulb is right next to the acrylic lens. I was also wondering if you turn that light on when the sub is out of the water, wouldn't the acrylic over heat? Also the acrylic lens looks to thin for use to 250' fsw?   Here are 8 pictures of that original lighting assembly taken apart.

Also interesting to note, the Halogen bulb was kept centered and wedged in place with three pieces of cut rubber hose.

Congratulations Brent. Your new sub looks real good. Take lots of pictures of the re-fit work to share with us. If I can help in any way, let me know. Frank D.
