Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Drop Weight Mechanism

Hello again Jay. You know, the hydraulic release is probably not necessary and thank you for that. I think I may be making this more complicated than it needs to be. In the (hopefully) rare event that I need to drop the weight, the manual method will work fine without the hydraulics. Good call Jay, one less hole in the sub!
As for jamming, I suppose it could get some gravel or something in there and get hung up. I definitely want every hole in the hull to have an isolation valve on it, so I better keep working on this device. Simplicity is important, and dependability also.
I repaired the rear plug mold today ( damn near destroyed that thing getting it off the hull ! ) and should be ready for fiberglass soon. The front fairing is going much better after learning how NOT to do it with the back end.
I hope to start the ballast tanks next, so through hulls can be located and plumbed. I sure would like to get this thing wet by August. At that point I'll need resolution on the drop weight thing. Where, how big, and how it works. I need to see where the center of gravity is in relation to front and back so the drop weight keeps the sub level. The front and rear structures are pretty close in weight ( calculated, anyway ) so on-center will work, and with the bricks bolted on the base plate, I thought I would have a little front/back adjustment, but that won't help if it jams and won't drop !
Well, I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks again for the good advice. Frank D.
