Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Low pressure scuba output

Hi Al

Thanks for the information on the 1st stage pressure.  From Frank's suggestion I'm going to look at steel pipe instead of the copper.

Thanks again

Simon

Hi Simon,

The IP pressure out of a regular scuba 1st stage varies based on ambient pressure and is in the 120-140 psi above ambient range.  In a wet sub, at a depth of 130', the ambient pressure would be around 56 psi for fresh water, so the output of the scuba 1st stage would be in the neighborhood of 176-196 psi for an average regulator.  Different manufacturers have different IP's (Intermediate pressure) but this will give you a ballpark.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Low pressure scuba output

Hello folks

I'm starting work on the air system for my wet sub ( don't have the resources for a dry sub yet, but I wanted to start somewhere) and have a quick question regarding the use of the low pressure output from a standard scuba reg.  I have a BCD connector to connect the reg set to the air system and I'm looking at using standard copper pipe and solder ring fittings (called yorkshire fittings here in the UK) to connect to the valves. The question is, is the pressure out of the first stage constant or effected by the external water pressure and what is this pressure, does it vary from reg set to reg set?

From talking to the guys at work we believe the pressure rating of the pipe and fittings is in the order of 10 bar and I seem to think that the scuba gear low pressure air is of a similar order. Can I solder the pipe or do I need to look at braising this pipework?

I noticed a number of the subs on the site use standard scuba reg sets for low pressure air can anybody help me out on this

Regards

Simon
