Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] alec smyth--mk 101 question

Hi Frank,

Keep plugging away, pardon the pun, I'm glad you found a better solution.

Keep the info coming.

My front dome should be shipped this week so I am working on the proper combination of steel, time and machine shop help to be financially efficient. There are many machine shops in our rust belt, however once you get to 48 inch diameter the list gets much shorter and the price goes up.

Best Regards,

That would be great. I can give you feed back on it .
I had a revelation yesterday while building the front structure. I've spent a huge amount of time on the foam plug mold ( mostly due to inexperience) and was looking at a couple more months work to do the bottom and all the front. Well, I've decided to increase the material thickness on the ballast tanks and forego any fiberglass on the bottom half of front and back sections. This makes a lot more sense. The advantages are.......less time because I'm eliminating the whole underside fiberglass/mold plug mess......the tank will be stronger and take more abuse......the tank can be polished and with the longitudinal breaks ( slight bends ) it will mimic lap boards on a wooden skiff....and it will give me a slight increase in ballast tank capacity making the hatch sit a little higher out of the water while surfaced. It's a win-win-win situation and will even cost less!!! Not very often that happens. It also solves some other technical difficulties that I won't go into here, but let me just say it will make maintenance easier too. Funny I didn't think of it earlier. I'll try to update my frappr sketch to show you guys the new look. Frank D.
