Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Another stupid question.

Hugh,

You are correct. Everyone ran o-rings under the mating surfaces originally, but ABS engineers raised some serious questions about edge-loaded stresses, and the practice ceased. The good news is that it makes port frames a whole lot simpler to machine.

Hi James. From your site it appears you are using an O'ring in the seat where
the dome seats. I wanted to do the same but believe it is a no-no as it causes
extra stress. In Stachiws handbook there is some reference. Can any of the
others clarify this for me. Hugh

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the advice on welding rods. I have ordered E7018 electrodes.

As for the viewport gaskets, i'm not 100% sure. Im just making everything to
the plans at the moment.

Ive got the day off work so i'm off to get on with it.
thanks
James

Hi All.

I know this question will have come up before but im going to ask anyway.

I've been busy this weekend cutting and fitting hull viewports. You can
look here.

http://www.guernseysubmarine.com/index_files/Page10371.htm

I am mig welding most things on my project but, with the hull viewports, i
have now found that i cannot get the mig gun in at the correct angle between
the port and the reinforcing rings on the inside. Its still awkward, but i
think i can get it with a stick.

I will have to borrow an inverter set so im waiting until ive done all 4 and
then i'll borrow the set and do them all in one go.

The question is.........What electrodes do you guys suggest? I was thinking
of E6012. 2.5mm

What do you think?
Thanks
James
