Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] pvc
hydrophone
To all: On behalf of the entire passive
sonar hydrophone research and development team and many silent helpers, Jon
has asked that I inform everyone that a new hydrophone has been made that is
made from "off the shelf" items, and can be purchased for around $30.00 at
almost any hardware store. It is constucted for use down to 500' the maximum
depth of most psubs. Pictures of this newest hydrophone are
available on the special projects section on the clubs web site. This
hydrophone is designed for construction that does not require the use of a
machinist lathe. We in this group are attempting to provide the basic
components that would be of value to all members be their budget small or
large. (something for every one) Details on the amplifier console
and how it was made are soon to follow and will also be posted with pics as
well. This hydrophone along with other examples and supplies should be at this
next convention and the "how to build" instructions will be made available to
all interested on the club site. In addition, a simple
test sonar unit will be on hand to duplicate Peters' "Kraka"
viewport installation on any and all attending submarines! The
schematics of how this unit was comprised will be available and will
suprise you as to how simple this unit really
is.
