Hi Jurgen. Yes, I'm talking about the Humboldt squid. I live in
No. Calif. just south of San Francisco. A small town near here called Moss
Landing is the mouth of the trench along our coast here. The water is VERY deep
and the currents cause ''upwelling'' where the deep water is brought to the
surface here. The squid have moved into this area and have
become abundant enough to support a brisk trade in ''squid hunts'' by
some of the local charter boats. The squid usually come up to about 100 feet to
feed, and seldom get above that. When you hook one, it's important to get it up
quickly before the other squid attack it. I believe they have a short life span
of only two years, and will eat pretty much anything they can kill, including
each other. When my sub is operational, and I get pictures, I'll make
sure to post them so the guys can see them. Frank D. It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms and advice on AOL Money & Finance. |
