Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] frappr for Jim K.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the coments. The drop weight will be 1,500 #. That will offset a full hard ballast tank of 650# and still create about 850# of positive bouyancy. It also falls at about 10% of gross weight per ABS guidelines. The front tapered portion and window seat will only be about 9 - 12 inches long and the base will accomodate the 39 inch window. To be conservative I have decided not to begin this portion until I have the completed Wwindow in hand. Greg plans on forming it in about two weeks. The tapered section and window seat will be completely fabricated, welded and machined prior to welding the assembly to th sub. This will keep any weld distortion far from the window seat and will also accomodate maching the window seat area.

The hard ballast tank assembly will weigh about 1,600#, the window about 145#,and batteries about 1,600#.

This will leave about 3,500# to build soft ballast tanks, skids and all the internal items controls etc. as well as a reasonable fudge factor. As I get closer to the finish line I will determine how heavy to make the skids which will put as much excess weight as possible low.

Best Regards.
Jim K

That's a big one Jim. Sure looks good. Any idea yet how much lead you need to carry?  I like the windows. Have you got a picture yet of the front window or taper/seat ? The rings on the inside are nice. I'll be putting some stiffeners inside mine soon. Gotta go see the steel guy to get another sheet. Frank D.
