I really like the idea of a deadman type switch on the pinger. I've been thinking about doing the same sort of thing for an automatic drop weight release, blow MBT's, and fill lift bag systems.

Thank you for stepping in with the depth capability warning on Jon's supplied "dipping" hydrophone construction plans He provided the group.
Having found this "pinger" project a interesting deversion, I am now free to focus fully on the upcomming passive sonar test trials. It is, after all, my primary research project. When Jon asked for help, I could not refuse to assistance him. ( but now I am glad it is over.)
I did not voice any concern to him, but if unchecked, we in the submarine community, in concern to avoid regulation by local Governments, could impose upon ourselves so many SOP's to be more so than any Governing entity would have. I would have suggested that rather than require a specific type of locator, some form of locator be used that would be best suited to the specific submarine operating environment for that particular boat. A compiled list of options could also be made available for concideration. Activities such as conventions could require specifics.
In the event I were to complete a submarine project, I would utilize a sonar locator that would activate following a short timing cycle. Should this timing cycle count down to "0", this homing device would then activate automatically to aid in my resue. I would never dive alone, and some form of basic deployment intensions would be left on shore. (simular to a flight plan for aircraft only dealing in depth intended and basic course layout)
