Hi All,
I'm calling out a second time for sub owners, sub
builders and anyone that knows the location of a
P-sub.
You may remember, I am trying to compile a list of
personal subs. The main reason for the list was to
locate subs, and people who could help with specific
questions about them. Also, I am doing some
research into standards for personal sub rescue.
When I first started these two ventures, they
weren't connected, but that's changing.
After talking to rescue people from several
different agencies, I'm surprised at how alone we
are when diving in a sub. Those guys have almost no
idea personal subs even exist, much less, how to run
a rescue operation for one.
The first thing they all ask is "how many of you are
there?" As in everything of this sort, the more
personal subs there are, the more they take it
seriously that they may encounter a rescue involving
one of us. The more they realize this, the more
emphasis they will put on being prepared to do such
a task, if called on.
So, for our collective good, please send the
following information to me and I will compile it.
*Sub type or description
*Diving depth
*Location (country, state and or city)
*Owner
*Description of subs condition (half built,
working, can dive with some repair, just a rusting
flower box)
*How to contact you
*Would you be willing to answer questions about
construction or diving?
*Anything else you feel useful to note about the sub
or yourself.
Either reply as a return to this posting or to me
off list at jumachine@comcast.net
After chatting with the director of a national
American dive agency for a while he said "I have to
tell you, when I got the message to contact you
about rescue operations involving people with
personal submarines, my first thought was, what kind
of nut am I going to be talking to with this one."
We talked for a while and I got him browsing the
Psubs website during the later part of our
conversation. As we were hanging up, his parting
words were, "I thought as rescuers we had everything
covered but I've learned with your call, you guys
are real and out there. As a rescue organization,
we need to be prepared to rescue you if we're ever
called on to do so."
Interesting! I'm glad we had our chat before they
get called on to haul me and my hunk of steel up
form the deep!
Dan H.
