Hi Brent. Although I don't like the idea of a shaft penetrating the hull,
one is unavoidable. This would be the emergency drop weight. It's located in the
center of the hull, and on the lowest point. Here's a sketch of the mechanism
I'll be using. I haven't shown the hydraulic linkage that will be the first
option. This is the back-up method to drop the weight. If the hydraulic
system is jammed/broken, I can open the ball valve, insert a socket, and rotate
the shaft manually to release the drop weight. Of course, this is ''worst case
scenario''. Frank D.
