Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Jacques Cousteau's Diving Saucers Data

Ralph,

Which sub are you thinking of?  You got me to looking through some Jacques Cousteau books I've had since I was very young. I found some interesting pictures in one of them. They show the SP 350, SP 3000, and the SP 500, but only claim the SP 3000 (later renamed Cyana), to be a recent addition to there diving saucer fleet.   Here's the short quote from the book.

" SP 3000. A recent addition to our diving saucer fleet, this sub will allow men to penetrate and observe 10,000 feet down. "

Here are my scanned pics you might not of seen before, starting with this one.

Also from the same book is this interesting drawing of the Argyronete submarine of the future. I looked at that picture a lot as a kid.

I found it interesting that they called there submersibles, diving saucers. I don't know much about the subs Jacques Cousteau used, so perhaps others in the group will fill us in. How ever there is still more to be found on the net. I'm guessing that all three SP class diving saucers were used by Cousteau, but I'll just have to keep searching and reading to find out. Here are the Busby book links to the SP class of subs.

The picture of the SP 3000 in the Busby book on page 210 looks like the sub was in a museum at that the time the photo was taken. I'll see what else I can find.

Regards,
Brent Hartwig

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] cousteau sub

This might have been on the list before, but does anyone know where the sub that cousteau used is located?  Is it in a museum, or still privately owned.
