Hi Brent,
Frankly, I live in UC-3 for one reson and one reson only,
because I love it. The cost savings is just a cover up. The ship is my base
in life, and she is designed to do exactly that. Tempreture outside today is
about 2 C, and inside the mess its about 20 C, at 1 kw heat. Insulation is
done with a polymeric foam product, and it looks quite nice. Unlike most
submarines UC-3 has a lot of light because of the many ( 16 ) 200 and 400
mm viewports. As time goes by more and more systmems get finished - e.g. the
boats freshwater system about to be disconnected form the public grid, and with
time the same will happen to the electric surply. She has a 12 kW
dieselgennerator, and will also feature a 400 watt windturbine. Unlike the the
normal world in sub with 1.5 tonnes of batteries, electric energy can be
stored...
As for lauch dates...well...she wilbe launced when the
side door is welded shut the outside work is finished.
That coud be done in a month or two...but May is nice
because is warm and sunny. Getting operational with all systems up will take a
little longer.
Good luck with your own dreams, and give me a call if
you pass scandinavia...
Best regards,
Peter

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Insulating the
UC-3
Hello
Peter,
What type of insulation did you
use for the UC-3 ? A number of guys talk about launch dates, but your
one of those guys that will likely do it. ; )' Life has a way of
getting in the way of one finishing there goals, unless there truly focused
and dedicated. You Peter, are very focused and truly dedicated. But I suspect
you truly like living in UC-3, so it might no be as much of a sacrifice to you
as it would be to some other SMMO's.
I know all about giving up a
supper comfortable place to live to save money for ones goals. When I first
started my commercial tropical bird farm. I stayed in my minivan and
then later in an large old cold storage room that was once used for storing
the fresh eggs when the buildings where used for layer chickens, many years
before. That room was the most insulated room in the facility, so at
least I could stay warm, but as you would expect there were no windows, and it
was hard to bring a date home and hang out in the cooler. In hind sight
I should of acquired a lava lamp, and set up my aquariums. ; )'
Regards, Brent
Hartwig
