Hi Frank,
Just be aware that RFC-20070002 hasn't been
adopted yet and it's final form may change after we receive comments on
it. Since RFC-20070002 targets phonetic communication as it pertains to
characters and numbers, we should create another RFC for specific phrases that
would be appropriate for operation of personal submersibles. I hope to
have a web interface for this purpose soon so that everyone can participate, but
in the mean time, feel free to send me suggestions for additional guidelines and
I'll create an RFC for it. Ditto for an emergency buoy or anything else
that might be appropriate. Just keep the subject matter targeted.
One RFC for communication phrases, another RFC for emergency buoys,
etc.
Since we've adopted Marine Band radios for
surface communication, it would probably make sense to simply adopt the "mayday"
call standard for PSUB emergencies. I think other phrases for notification
of submerging, or permission to submerge in a group environment, is appropriate
as well.
I would like our standards/guidelines to
involve the community at large, hence the RFC (request for comments) on
proposals that we are looking at. The format we have adopted is to send
out a detailed RFC and then provide 30 days for reaction and comments.
After the comment period, we finalize the wording of the standard/guideline and
then publish it.
Jon
