Of course, if your outboard pod fails at depth you'll suddenly take on
at least a couple of hundred extra pounds of ballast and/or less
displacement. In any case you'll be a couple of hundred pounds heavy
and you'll need the equivalent in variable or main ballast tank
capacity to compensate.

Also, the pod would need to enclose the entire outboard and open up
for use so you could get the prop into the water.

If I was going to do such a thing I'd get a piece of depth rated steel
tube and put a hatch on either end and lower the outboard out the
bottom one for use.

It probably would be easier to just put a small gen set in a pressure
tight pod on deck and use that to charge batteries and provide power
for surface transit with the main electric motor.

That's why I find Kraka to be such an attractive boat, it's practical,
good looking and provides it's own power; I wish I had the money!
