Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Yet another "drug" sub captured.
As p-subber living in colombia i really hate to touch that theme so i
will it make it quickly - most of those boats are very rudimentary
semi submersibles - so would not classify as "submarine" saw the thing
on colombian TV - very poor acme intent looks like if the owner had
been his best customer during building - the only serious intent that
has been made so far was a russian technician guided military stile
steel sub. It was discovered even before going to water. Anyhow
although a often mentioned story the whole idea is complete nonsense -
due to cold war IF united states really is prepared to detect ANY
vessel approaching its coasts it is a submarine! All cold war was
about that - all sensors are developed and built around that - all
navy and coast guard was formed and trained around that ! There is
also a VERY close cooperation between colombian navy and us-navy on
that - and one of the few arguments military can give to keep navy
budgets up after cold war has ended is this - so sorry guys - these
are stories but complete nonsense for somebody who has a remote idea
of reality in colombia and about submarines...
