RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Welding Revisited

I suppose that could have been anyone, but it sounds very similar to the
Seaker-100 incident.

Subject: RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Welding Revisited

Recently I was at the human powered sub races and had a pleasant
conversation with the head judge. He's a gentleman with vast experience
in submarines, having served on many types of submarines throughout a
long career. He had dives to six thousand feet, and he'd been a DSRV
captain. He commented that his only interaction with personal
submersibles was as an expert witness in a lawsuit. The lawsuit had come
about because someone built a sub designed to go to many hundreds of
feet, but it failed at only 30 feet and one of the two crew died.

The stresses at 200 feet are major.

Thanks,

Alec
