RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] S101

Good Morning Peter,

Well likely afternoon for you. It's very cool to know that Kraka, which is one of my favorite PSUBs, got a fair amount of design elements from another one of my favorite PSUBs. If you sell Kraka you can't call your self a amateur sub builder any more. ; )' Near as I can tell the S101 was Paul Moorhouses first sub. So if that's really the case, then it's a hell of a great start in the submarine building field. I was very impressed with how strong and simple allot of the design details on the S101 were, when I first saw it. Paul designed and manufactured kit-cars before building the S101, as well as working as an engineer at Rolls Royce, making nuclear submarine power plants. It looks like Steve Walters did most, if not all of the fiberglass fairing work.

Have you found a new paint and primer your happy with on Kraka? It seemed to me that the type of paint you used for the first painting of Kraka didn't last long in saltwater. I'm considering using Interlux's  Primewash 353/354 thinned 25% with Viny-Lux solvent 355, then four coats of InterProtect 2000E/2001E then a smooth coat of a Rhino liner type coating called Rattleguard, which contains 60% Polyurethane and a 40% Epoxy blend.  Pettit's Metal Prep 6455 Metal Primer looks pretty good to, but I'll have to find some people that have used it in saltwater and hear what they have to say.

Do you have or does anyone else here have any more detailed technical drawings, manuals, or building data on the S101 you would be willing to share?

Regards,

Brent Hartwig

Hi Psubbers,

Just before design work started on our Kraka - we had a swedish visitor - he was an ex S101 crew member and had worked for yours with swedish submarines. The direct result of this visit was the construction of Kraka based on the design of S101 but "amatuerised"

What does Psubers think of the S101 - is it a dreamboat og too big and bulky ( if so - kraka comes out worse )

Personaly i am surprised to se the resembelance...and very small size of this essentially professionel submarine.

Regards,

Peter
