Øystein,
350 lb thrust will require in the order of 10
-15 kW electric motor. To power this regardless of voltage you will consume
battery power equivalent to
500 - 1000 kg batteries pr. hour of
operation. It can be done with 24 or 48 volt motors - and if this is your
intention look into the motors used on electric forklifts or electric cars.
In this I assume you will have the motor(s) inside your pressurehull.
If the electric motor is only engaged when
diving - it is the only solution and its ok since you are not likely to
travel long distances submerged . But if you plan to sail the boat surfaced
on batteries you will find that if the range
required is more than a very few nautical miles, the electric
propulsion is very expensive, and very inefficient. If you add even the
smallest marine diesel engine to your boat you will be able to improve range
hundredfold.
A submarine propulsion system can consist of a
standard marine diesel engine with a reduction / reverse / clutch gear
device and an electric motor driving the propellers haft via V - belts when
the marine engine is stopped and the gearbox lever is in neutral. This is
how simple its done on our boat Kraka - and it works fine.
I looked at your drawings - I assume a sail
will be added to the concept ?!

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Submarine
motors
Hi
Have been looking all the www for motors for my project. I believe I
will go for el motors. There are several companies offering electrical
motors, but a lot of the motors are running on to high voltage > 120
VDC. I would like to keep the voltage down. Also it is important that the
motor i sealed, rated for approx 300m. I need about 350 lb of thrust in
either one or two motors.
Anybody know where to find the best prizes on what I am looking
fore?
