In Copenhagen the diesel -electric submarine
Kraka was just launched for her second year in water. This happens after an
extensive refit that gave her much improved dynamic properties, better sensors (
new periscope and a magnetometer )
yesterday we made a wonderful Das boot like "combat
dive" going flank speed and diving in just 15 sec...the boat ran nicely under -
reached a few meters down and returned to periscope depth with ease and
beauty...a scene almost taken out of Das Boot.
Many people talk about the idea of "flying" under
water in different types of craft - we actually do it in our WW II style
submarine - and the experience is mind blowing...because of all the
windows...
One thing - we have had our share of faults and
glitches - with Kraka - like a few days ago when we had dripping in the engine
room, and had to abort a offshore dive plane test...and now the exhaust
valve is dripping...and a after the dive yesterday one of the e - motor
relays is down. Get a submarine - and you will newer have a day off...but look
at it this way...we have 32345 things that work, and currently 3 things that
don't. On the shop work will now resume work on UC3...her
five bladed propeller form Michigan Wheel just arrived and the auxiliary diesel
( gennerator ) is expected within a week or so...
Have fun, and be carefull...
