Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Pipe vendors?

Title: Pipe vendors?
Hi Alec,

I am not an expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt and/ or verify my info. I have many years ago tried to buy seamless tube in a much smaller diameter and the price was outrageous. This tube is extruded to eliminate the seam which drives the price up. I recently tried a large pipe fabricator for heavy walled pipe and except in special circumstances, even 4 foot diameter is only available in 3/8 inch wall. Also most pipe steel is of very poor quality for pressure vessel use.

I know that this does not help you much, but if you find a good source please let me know.

I had my hull rolled at Liebovich Steel & Aluminum Company in Rockford, IL.

They are great people to work with, competitive pricing and they roll truely round, without some of the flat areas of some lesser vendors.

Their Phone Number is 1-800-892-2981

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Jim Kocourek

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Pipe vendors?

I've been having some difficulty getting reasonable prices for what should be rather ordinary pipe. Does anyone have a cheap source? I'm looking for A106 seamless in ODs like 12.75", 14", and 20". The only quote I've been able to get so far was as high as getting it custom rolled in 516 grade 70, which seems crazy. You'd think pipe would be the easiest thing of all to find, but I think my difficulties are on account of the small lengths involved.

Thanks,

Alec
