It always seemed to me that a PSUB should have dry suits and/or wet suits,
along with SCUBA gear for all on board for leaving a flooded sub. Of
course putting on wet suits in a small sub is a challenge but it can be
done. I wish the military subs of the world would design there submarines
so that all personnel on board can leave the sub in a dry 1 ATM escape
pods. The escape pods can be inside the subs hull just like the triton
missiles are, but with allot of hatch and other systems of course. Even if
the submarine is one it's side the pods would be designed to still able to
exit. I've been thinking about a PSUB design were the main pressure hull
can detach from the main supper structure and float to the surface, if your
supper structure is entangled or other issues.
Regards,
Brent

Oystein,
We have discussed this at length, and is always worthwhile as a discussion
to be revisited. The general consensus is as you say, self rescue is the
best course.
You simply need to be able to get out of a flooded sub. Saturation issues
aside for a moment, even here in Florida, exposure can be an issue...in
Norway....I don't even want to think about it!
A non-flooded casualty (entanglement), with sufficient reserve and surface
communication, you might evaluate the situation for external help if risk
is negligible (depth?).
The marker buoy in my case is to serve two purposes..1) keep vessels clear
of the downed sub 2) mark it for recovery.
