[PSUBS-MAILIST] Streamline Design & Manipulator Arms [Re: Drag vs. Entanglement]

That has been a factor that weighs heavily on my mind as well.
All of my daydream/fantasy scribble sketches have been rather
streamlined for aesthetics as well as consideration of hang-ups,
tangles and snares in the deep. I also do like the idea of being
able to Haul A$$ if I want to... just cuz* ];D

I've been considering the design possibilities for enclosing
manipulator arms in streamlined casings/pods or hull flush fixtures/panels.
I suppose that has something to do with my childhood collection
of Transformers potentially but it just makes sense to me.

Shipmates,

KM makes an important point.  Two men died in the JSL because she became entangled in lines from a submerged destroyer off the coast of Florida and could not surface.  Streamline design is more about safety than speed, in my book.

for me, the streamling isn't so much for drag, as to reduce the risk of entanglement. it's always the last thing you expect that gives you the most grief.
