The French Nom for "name", de for "of", and "plume"
for the feathered quill that was sharpened to be used as a pen
in olden times when a pen was a feathered quill.
A quill being the feathered plumage of a bird, hence the word
"plume"
It is directly translated as "Name of pen" or
sometimes as "Name of the pen". Today we call it a "pen name" and it
is
most often used by writers wishing to publish under
a name other than their birth names.
Nomdae Plume's choice of name is a rather
obvious while humorous tongue in cheek adaptation of the original

spellling of a cloaking device for one who wishes,
or has reasons to remain anonomous. In effect, a secret
identity.
You're not a drug lord or terrorist seeking
submarine knowledge under a secret identity are you Nomdae? Lol. Just
kidding.
His real name folks is Clark Kent. ; )
Bill Akins.

      George:
My first question regarding this is "how accurate do you need to
be?"  I think there's going to be some error regarding the position
of your sub verses the position of your float.  For example: drag is
going to cause the cable to curve. (Think of the kite-flying
anology)  Also, wind is going to move the bouy around... so it might
actually be overhead, beside, or ever in front of your sub.
  I'm
personally planning on going with the GPS-on-surface/IGS-submerged
route.  I'll be watching this thread to see what other folks
post.
      Take care,
      NP
