Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Variable ballast calculations
Would some one be please be kind enough to look this over for me? If I
were to be correct with these numbers it would mean some advancement in
grasping of the basics.
Submerged displacement = 28,637 lbs
Minus vessel dry weight - 10,000 lbs
Variable ballast required 18,637 lbs = 2,330 gallons of seawater
in tanks
Cubic feet of ballast tanks required = 291 cf required to reach
theoretical neutral buoyancy.
Does this appear viable?
Thanks
Joe
Your Soft Ballast (water) volume/mass is about two
times greater than your dry mass ? Much to much I think - drawing
available ?
A 10,000 lbs = about 5 ts boat required a soft ballast volume of 10-30 %
of this mass. 10% is a low figure for a small lake boat, 20 % - 30 % is
for ocean going. 30% of 5ts = 1,5 ts or 400 galleons.
But maybe I missunderstand your calculation ? Did you mean with variable
ballast - fix lead ? Or a mixture bettwen fix lead and tank-water ?
The Figure for ballast water on Sgt.Peppers was 500 liter to 90 liter
(18%) on Euronaut 57 ts to 10 ts (17,5%) with hard tanks (19%)
