Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Hull Shape question
Something that bothers me about the oval pressure hull is: that do have
four curved surfaces with the largest arc dictating the crush depth?
or do you have a very out of round cylinder?
Wouldn't extra framing/cross beams be needed to keep the two larger arc
surfaces for being pushed in?
Finite Element Analisys might help answer some of these questions.
Also, making some small pressure-vessels and lowering them to
crush depth to make sure any results from structural calculations
or FEA match (with in reason) emperical data.
I really like the idea of playing around with noval pressure hull
designs. But, the only safe way to do this is build a few (scale
models would work) and test them to destruction. This is the only
safe way to verify the theory behind the design.
