I never thought of the English as drinkers.  The odd pint at the
pub doesn't create a drunk, as I understand the social event
called a pub.

I think of Americans (well, the United States' citizenry) as those
with the greatest potential for overtippling.

That having been said, it reminds me of something.  In the
book "Suicide Submarine," the Japanese narrator admits
to being totally wasted/pissed/etc. when he approached his
Kaiten.  After the hatch was shut, he sobered immediately.
Might this have been a function of claustrophobia?

And, what does elevated air pressure do to the effects of
alcohol?
