Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] inaccurate terms & inescapable that the Hunley was a hybrid.

Hi Jim.

Ordinarily I would say..."how do we define "very small" Jim"? Smile. But after being accused of not being nice, then being insulted and called a candlewaster which naturally makes me snap right back which I hate to have to sink to the same level to do,

the fun has gone out of this forum for me. Everyone can think what they like, It no longer concerns me, nor will I try to offer theories or explainations that just get me insulted. I will no longer look for interesting links or try to be helpful anymore.

I came here to learn and have fun. While it is true I learned a lot, It has now ceased to be fun and there are better things I can do with my time than try to add to a forum that has some members that do not appreciate my efforts.

You're a real gentleman Jim. (Wasn't that a movie?)  and I appreciate your civilized attitude of allowing me my opinion without rancor and just agreeing

to disagree which is what gentlemen should do. Thanks for respecting my rights as I do yours. Cheers back to you my friend.

Kindest regards and best of luck.

Bill Akins.

Hi Bill,

I think we can define "minor" as "very small", which is what the pressure difference is at the surface where the Hunley took on water to submerge.

I think I understand the basis of your theory that the Hunley was a hybrid; but to me the internal pressure variable caused while flooding the tanks at or near the surface seems too insignificant to offset the fact that she was, in most respects, a 1-ATM submarine designed to protect the crew from pressure at greater depths.  Ambient subs do not offer the crew anything near that level of protection from pressure, so to me, the Hunley seems to be a 1-ATM sub.

But we're all entitled to an opinion, and while I might not be able to fully agree with yours, I do respect your right to it.

Cheers!

Jim
