Hi Pierre.
This is for an ambient sub right? Then why not have
the air line under the water level in your cabin and let it exhaust the air into
the water and
bubble up into the cabin. Exhausting the air into
the water where it can bubble up into the cabin prevents you hearing the loud
hiss of the air escaping the small hose end.
The loud noise you hear is much the same principle
as the noise from gas from a rifle barrel rapidly escaping from the
small muzzle
when the gas pushing the bullet exits. If you can
slow down this rapid escape or muffle it like a silencer does, then your noise
level drops.
Try exhausting it into the water first and if you
still hear a loud hiss you could exhaust it into a bladder first and then let it
slowly out of the bladder.
Or you could make a piece of pvc pipe
and put two end caps on it with one end cap having a fitting attached to your
hose
and the entire pvc pipe perforated with holes and
perhaps a copper or stainless tuffy dishwashing scrub pad inside it to break up
the air and redirect it thru many convolutions so that the
air slows down before it exits the many
perforations in the pvc tube. Similiar technology is used in firearm
silencers.
Kindest Regards,
Bill Akins.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Mufflers
Hi Guys!
Today I did my first scuba tank and air system
test! Everything worked good exept some minor leaks.
Anyway, When I
tried the selenoidvalve (the one that equalise pressure inside the cabin)
I jumped out of my body! So much noise!!!! It was
unbelivable!
Right now my set-up is two 3/8" rubber hose to let air
inside the cabin. One is going true the electric valve, the other is a
back-up manual valve.
Anybody know what I can place at the end of those
hoses to reduce noise?
Personal comfort is not an issue for me right
now. But retaining what's left of my sanity is...
Thanks
guys!
