Hi emile and all
,
Welcom to this group.
I can awnser some of your questions,
thanks for welcome , in fact it is somewhere difficult for a newbe like you to discuss sutch big subject with guys like all of you .
So the max difference of pressure would be 2 amtos
as anybody ever used fuelcell bateries?
---As far as I know nobody on the list. yes we want to....
We wait for cars and home micro powerplants with F/C
Well in fact in this subject we have a small experience for we have participated to a few meetings of human powered boats and subs where we met a couple of guys working on fuelcells.
we are in contatc to built an underwater unit for cavern divers .
new fuelcells are smaller ligther and cheaper .
last question , we are planing to construc the hull in epoxy fiber glass for we are used to build boats like that ,
is that a good idea ?
for a ambient sub fiberglass is ok. For a 1 atm. sub most people on the list prefer steel. Fiberglass is ok. for 20 M. but has the disadvantage of ageing, bad impact resistance and repairs/modifications are weaker than original.
With steel it is relative easy to make a 60-100 m sub.
Kraka from Peter Madsen has a dive lock out and is also a combined ambient/ 1 atm sub. (whole interior pressurised)
In fact the sub will be ambiant during the divers stay enabaling the divers to get out and in freely, but at the end of the stay the doo must be closed and the pressure reduced little by little fir deco, so at the end of the dive the bub will be one atmos.
on the other hand the sub will be fixed at a max of 20m enabling free time dives down to 55m .
steel ha ok this is what i noticed looking to all your nice subs,
Fiber glass resistance depends on several datas and it can be seriously caclulated to be meet the resitance requirements after the construction and in time.
In addition the unit will be small in size (5m) reducing the problems.
But your remark about steel make me think about the opportunity of doing the job in fiberglass.
as a atter of fact in nobody has used fiberglass for subs it is puzzling...
regards
jean michel
